Age Concern Exeter is going skydiving!

On August 21st 2010, around 50 brave souls are flying to 15,000 feet so they can do a tandem skydive in order to raise as much money as possible for Age Concern Exeter. These intrepid volunteers have been enlisted from the schemes run by Age Concern Exeter, as well as many who signed up at the Devon County Show in May.

We’re each trying to raise £400 for the charity – so if 50 of us do it, that will make a whopping £20,000! WOW! We’re dong it though Skydive UK, based near Honiton, who are great for charities – to see more about them, follow this link to their website: http://www.skydiveukltd.com/. This tandem skydive is going to be a great way to feel the exhilaration of a parachute jump, without having to learn the technique!

Nerves are starting to creep up on those of us who have signed up to the jump – most of us haven’t done anything like it before, and have no idea what to expect! We are approaching our ‘jump-day’ with a mixture of immense apprehension and also great excitement – the thrill seekers among us can’t wait!

It’s easy to forget the main aim of the jump in all of this – although it’s going to be a fantastic (and, for many of us a once in a lifetime!) opportunity, it’s going to give a lot back to the elderly community that we work with on a daily basis here at Age Concern Exeter. As a charity, we always welcome donations and contributions; you keep us going! The amount of money that we’re hoping to raise is going to make a huge difference to so many people that really need help – whether it be anything nursing care, or just someone to sit and chat to for an hour. Nothing comes cheap anymore, and whilst we have our fantastic army of volunteers that do so much for us as a charity, there are some things that have to be done by paid professionals. The money that we raise will go towards these things, and hopefully enable us to give someone a better quality of life.

We’re always on the lookout for recruiting more people into skydiving with us! If you would like to try your hand at skydiving, and raise some money for Age Concern Exeter, give us a ring on 01392 202092 and ask for either Jen or Corinne – we’re always happy to hear from you!
