Social Support
Voluntary Visiting
Older people living alone and experiencing isolation are visited by volunteers who offer friendship and social support. Volunteers from all walks of life, including university students, make regular home visits.
Careline Telephone contact service
We offer a chat and social support through telephone contact, two or three times a week to people living alone with few social outlets. People who receive this service really appreciate the relationships that are formed with the volunteers who make the calls. It can be a real life line to people who are isolated and lonely. It can also pick up potential problems before they become crisis; an element of this service that is undoubtedly a huge bonus.
Soundbase Hard of Hearing Group
This is a small social group for older people whose hearing loss prevents them from joining larger groups and participating in ordinary social activities.
Residential and Nursing Home Visiting
A new venture that began in 2007, volunteers are visiting groups of people and individuals in local residential and nursing homes to chat, befriend and perhaps be the only visitor that someone might have. It has started very succesfully and we will be developing this partnership working in 2008 with many other homes in Exeter we hope.
