TAKE A BREAK – SITTING & ESCORT SERVICE

From the 1st April 2007 there has been a new county wide sudsidised scheme which is directed at giving carers in Devon a break. A carer is someone who looks after family, partners or friends in need of help because they are ill, frail or have a disability. The care they provide is unpaid.

Take a Break is co-ordinated by Westbank in Exminster and Age Concern Exeter is one of the providers who are offering this service. The breaks are provided by a member of staff coming to look after the cared for person so that the carer can have a break. This can be a ‘sitting’ arrangement or may be an ‘escort’ out for shopping, social trip, short walks, medical appointments etc.

  • The service operates on a voucher system, providing up to 12 hours per month, at a subsidised cost of £2.50 per hour.
  • No financial assessment is required.
